Surrey County Council has worked with Surrey bus operators to set up a scheme offering Ukrainian nationals a bus pass which will allow them to travel for free on their most used bus route.
Temporary bus passes are valid for three months from issue to assist Ukrainians newly arrived in Surrey on the House program for Ukraine, get around. Each person aged 5 and over intending to travel by bus will be required to present their individual bus pass. Children under 5 do not need their own bus pass.
The Accommodation for Ukraine the temporary bus pass is free and users will be able to simply show their pass to the driver or press the ticket machine when boarding the bus from their chosen route, allowing them to travel while staying safe settling into their new life.
The list below shows the operators currently offering Accommodation for Ukraine temporary bus passes on their routes. Once issued, the bus pass can be used Monday through Sunday on routes offered by the chosen bus operator only. We hope that more bus operators will offer this program soon.
Current confirmed bus operators supporting the program are:
- Travel compass
- Falcon Trainers
Cllr Matt Furniss, Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said: “County Council, Districts and Boroughs, charities, community groups and many of our residents responded quickly and proactively with great empathy to support Ukrainian refugees coming to Surrey. All of our Ukrainian guests were warmly welcomed, with a wide range of support provided. This includes housing, clothing, access to education, as well as the provision of basic necessities that we all take for granted.
“This bus pass is the final part of this support and I hope it proves very useful for people as they settle into a new life here in Surrey. I would like to thank Surrey bus operators for working to provide this, alongside all of our local partners and central government who have set up the Homes for Ukraine program and provided parallel funding – support for Ukrainians who come here is truly a team effort.
For Ukrainian refugees who traveled to the UK in their own vehicle, a free 6-month parking permit is now also offered at their host address, whether or not the household has reached their permit allowance. Ukrainian nationals should contact their district or borough parking team to obtain their parking permit.
